Equipment

  • Saucepan or microwave-safe bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment or wax paper
  • Wooden sticks or popsicle sticks
  • Spoon or spatula

Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji
  • 1 11 oz bag soft caramel candies (like Kraft), unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • Wooden sticks or skewers
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts mini chocolate chips, crushed cookies, sprinkles, coconut, flaky sea salt

Instructions

Wash and prep apples

  • Wash apples well to remove wax coating so caramel will stick. Dry completely. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple. Set aside on a parchment-lined tray.

Melt caramel

  • In a small saucepan over low heat, melt unwrapped caramels with heavy cream, stirring frequently until smooth. (Or microwave in a bowl in 30-second bursts, stirring in between.)

Dip apples

  • Working quickly, hold each apple by the stick and dip into the caramel, swirling to coat. Let excess drip off and scrape the bottom slightly.

Add toppings (optional)

  • Immediately roll apples in toppings like nuts, crushed pretzels, or chocolate chips. Place on a parchment-lined tray to set.

Cool and serve

  • Let caramel apples set at room temperature for 30–45 minutes, or chill in the fridge to speed up the process.
