Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Dutch-processed recommended
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour or gluten-free blend
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ½ cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • Optional: ¼ cup mini marshmallows

Instructions
 

Step 1: Preheat & Prep

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.

Step 2: Cream Butter & Sugar

  • Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. This step adds lightness and texture.

Step 3: Add Eggs & Vanilla

  • Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.

Step 4: Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Add to wet mixture and stir gently.

Step 5: Pour in Boiling Water

  • Slowly add boiling water and mix until the batter becomes glossy and smooth.

Step 6: Add Chocolate Chips & Marshmallows

  • Fold in chocolate chips and optional marshmallows.

Step 7: Bake

  • Pour into prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes. A toothpick should come out with moist crumbs.

Step 8: Cool & Cut

  • Cool completely in pan before slicing. Don’t rush this step!
