Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions
 

  • Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
  • Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients, then mix in water and vanilla extract.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F, roll out the dough, and cut into shapes.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool on a wire rack before serving.
